Description: Retama Hall is a three-story residence hall originally built on a sloping site in the center of campus across the street from the commons complex. The existing residence hall had 73 student bedrooms that housed 141 students. The dorm was in need of major remodeling to comply with building code, accessibility recommendations, state energy requirements, and security. The building was gutted leaving only the structural framing and exterior skin. The windows were replaced as well as new HVAC, electrical and plumbing with energy-efficient components. New data lines and connections were installed. Additional scope included new security and life safety code upgrades including fire suppression system and a new fire alarm. Additional areas included a two-bedroom staff apartment, staff office, front desk, mailroom, two study rooms, one kitchen, two laundry rooms, public restrooms, and lobby lounge space. An elevator installed and all areas were Texas accessibility standards-compliant.
